Chinese restaurants in the United States range from steam-table lunch counters to white-tablecloth Cantonese seafood halls, and most fall somewhere in between: a laminated menu, a lunch special board, and combo plates priced a few dollars below the dinner menu. Ordering by number off the menu is normal and speeds things up, especially at takeout counters. Family-style ordering, where a table shares several dishes with rice rather than each person getting an individual entree, is standard at sit-down spots and usually cheaper per person. Many neighborhood restaurants are cash-preferred or charge a small card fee, so it is worth asking or checking the door before you order. Delivery apps cover most areas, but calling the restaurant directly is often faster and avoids the markup.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 10 am–9 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach China Max Express at (616) 381-5194; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is chinamaxexpress.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 162 reviews, which is a strong result for a chinese restaurant in Grand Rapids and suggests consistent service.

I’ve been to the location off of division last year, definitely reminded me of their location in Rivertown, good, nostalgic, and nothing seemed to have changed much. Tonight I went to their food truck at Riverside Park and I was just disappointed. The chicken is pre-breaded frozen with their sauce on the top with pre made noodles that were just mush when they warmed them up.. Not to mention, $4.49 for 3 crab ragoons, which I couldn’t bring myself to purchase. But for all I purchased for my family of 3, it came to $42 and even after doing the math at home with tax just doesn’t add up. The price alone I could’ve gotten a family meal at Panda and last 3 days for 3 of us. I’ve always loved this place up till today and don’t plan to return..

Tried this place for lunch today since it's close to my work. Service was fast and friendly and price was appropriate for what you get. I had orange chicken with chow mein noodles and a chicken egg roll. The orange chicken was exactly how I like it and tasted fresh. The chow mein noodles were a bit doughy but well seasoned and the vegetables were crisp. Chicken egg roll wasn't crispy but still had good flavor. The only thing I didn't care for was the sweet and sour sauce. It was watery and lacking in flavor. I will definitely try this place again.

So excited to find out they started their own restaurant after leaving the mall! I ordered all of my favorites! However, I did notice not all of their dishes are the same as before. The rice is the same, my absolute favorite! But the noodles have changed. The spicy beef is also different, more black pepper vs spicy, the sauce is more of a gravy than how it used to be. I did get there right before close so I didnt take pictures of the food itself. It all still tastes great! And I will definitely be returning! The staff was super friendly! Very helpful and kind!

I’ve been going to china max since the opened in rivertown mall. My family was bummed when they closed. Then we find them at their own store on division we were so happy and excited to get our Chinese food back. I can say that they do not disappoint. Any reviews that are negative here i would question. They have the most friendly staff and amazing food. The portions are big and always fresh and it’s extremely clean! If you haven’t eaten here you must give it a try. My favorite is the kung pao chicken and noodles. Although I just tried the spicy beef and it did not disappoint. The crab rangoons are fantastic as well.

Same owner that had the more favorite at Rivertown Mall. Was greeted by two young men one of which greeted me with a sample of their orange chicken which is by far the best around. Have not found anything nearly as close since they had to close because the mall jacked up the rent so high couldn't afford it. I got the three combo platter. Orange chicken, the green bean chicken, hot and spicy beef and a large pop for $16. Ended up bringing some of it home. I definitely will be back, this is not far from my home and my work. Nice job keep up the great work.
